[Review] Sunjoy Summer Breeze Soft Top Gazebo
Our soft top gazebo canopy arrived with zero damage. This is not very surprising, as it was packaged really well. Corrugated pads protect the parts during shipping. There is a plastic tray with all the bolts, washers and nuts, clearly labeled and all sorted out. The box also contains a plastic bag with spare parts. With DIY assembly, extra parts are always highly appreciated. All of the components are of solid construction. The large poles are heavy. They are certainly not the type that would get blown away by the wind. The canopy, on the other hand, is made of a hard-wearing fabric. I was very impressed with the quality of both the steel frame and the canopy.
For the setup, I only used a hammer, Phillips screwdriver, and ladder. I did use a drill too, the purpose of which I’ll explain later. The assembly, albeit simple, requires at least two sets of hands. Three would be better. The box contains an assembly guide, but I found the manufacturer’s YouTube video much more helpful. The most challenging part about setting up this soft top gazebo is putting on the last corner of the canopy onto the post. The canopy fits tightly around the post, so it’s normal if you have the same problem. That’s not a bad thing at all if you think about it. Who would want a gazebo with an ill-fitting canopy? It took me and my son around two hours to put the gazebo together. That’s not quick, but nothing great ever comes easy, right?
There are holes on the foot of the posts, which allow you to anchor the gazebo to the ground. We have it screwed down on our wood deck, but I believe you can screw it down on concrete as well. I highly recommend you do this step, so strong winds won’t blow your gazebo away. I got lag screws from the hardware and used a power drill to secure the gazebo onto our deck. However, I have to point out that you won’t get any lag screw in the box, so you’d have to buy them yourself. If you’re not keen on drilling holes on the ground, you can use weights to secure the gazebo. I still personally think that drilling is still the best way to go. This will guarantee a more secure attachment.

The gazebo provides us with a cozy shaded area when it is too hot out. The sun shines directly on the deck in the afternoon, so we’ve never put any furniture on it. Our family never stayed long on the deck except when we’re having barbeques. That changed when I came across this gazebo. The afternoon heat can get unbearable sometimes, and this gazebo has done wonders to keep us cool even when we’re sitting under the sun. Now, we spend most of our free time at home in the gazebo! What used to be a useless space in the house is now everyone’s favorite spot at home! Two days after getting the gazebo, I ordered a wicker furniture set. You’ll be surprised with how large the 10×10 footprint is. We have the set beneath the gazebo, and we still have enough room to move around.
The gazebo also stands tall, which is excellent as there is a hook in the center of the gazebo. You can use it to hang a chandelier. The gazebo comes with tracks around its perimeter, which you can use to hang privacy curtains or bug netting. You have to purchase the curtains and netting separately, but the fact that we can hang them on the gazebo came as a pleasant surprise. The hook and tracks allow you to customize the look of your gazebo. You can hang baskets, pretty lights, or whatever your creativity leads you to.

The canopy is water-resistant and does great at keeping us dry when it rains. The water would just run down the canopy instead of accumulating on top. The soft top can raise some concerns about wear and tear, but I think I can safely say that the top is as strong as it should be. I’ve read some reviews saying they have replaced their canopy (but not the frame). I think that would normally be the case if you have it exposed to the elements all year round. Of course, if you encounter rain with strong winds, you can still get wet. Due to the open design of the gazebo, the rain can get inside. We get our wicker set’s cushions inside the house when the weather forecast expects a storm during the day. On rare occasions, we also remove the canopy when we’re anticipating a bad storm, just to be on the safe side.
The two-tiered top helps the wind blow through without knocking the whole thing over. The gazebo also allows the air to pass through, so it doesn’t get too stuffy like when you’re inside a tent.
I can see some minimal fading on the canopy, but what do you expect? With hours under the sun, fading is the least of your problem.
While we were putting the gazebo together, I accidentally scratched a small area on one of the poles. The coating for that area chipped off. After around two weeks, I started to see rust on that spot. That’s on me, though. Steel is bound to rust if the protective coating is scratched. I touched the area up with an anti-rust paint, and that did the trick. A little touch-up here and there may be needed on your part, but it’s worth the extra effort. Overall, the powder-coated finish of the steel frame does well at fighting rust.
I could leave the gazebo out in any weather except for the winter. You need to put the canopy away for the winter. I left the frame assembled, though. The steel posts have held up well last winter, and I’m pleased. The winter is surely the ultimate test of durability. If that’s not enough proof of the gazebo’s sturdiness then I don’t know what will ever convince you.
Since after the assembly, none of the parts have moved, loosened or bent. I believe that if you assemble this soft top gazebo well, it will last long. The gazebo has a steel frame that has withstood storms and even last year’s winter. The four corner posts are round with large bases that secure well to the ground with the appropriate hardware. The posts are strong, and they won’t bend with strong winds. There are also eight steel tubes that hold the canopy up. The stability of the gazebo gives me a peace of mind for me and my family. It is so much better to spend more for a product than to buy a cheaper one with possible safety issues.
As I said earlier, the canopy fits tightly around the frame. That’s not to say that the tight fit would cause the fabric to rip apart. The fit is just right – no more, no less. This gives the entire soft top gazebo a refined and sophisticated look. The gazebo looks beautiful from every angle. I can actually imagine seeing the gazebo in a high-end resort.
The light brown color of the canopy would fit in any setting. The two-tier top, made primarily for stability purposes, looks elegant as well. The two tiers make the gazebo appear taller and wider. Tying curtains on the posts would give this soft top gazebo a luxurious feel to it. The steel frame has subtle bronze details on them, which are highlighted when the sun hits the gazebo. Most people would miss it, but not me. I have a very keen eye for details, and cute little details on furniture make me giddy inside.
The canopy does not dirty easily. Same goes for the steel frame. I do need to wipe the steel frame with a damp cloth around twice a month to keep dust off. As for the canopy, the fabric tends to resist dirt well.
In My Opinion
If you’re looking for a soft top gazebo canopy, I highly recommend this one from Sunjoy. Before finally ordering this particular gazebo, I have come across less expensive ones with less inspiring reviews. It was either they’re pretty but not that durable or decently tough but not beautiful enough. Basically, there was always something wrong with the product and that turned me off instantly. This one, however, nailed both the style and quality department.
It has transformed our deck into a cozy seating area. It’s the perfect place to do a brunch, afternoon tea or late night party with friends and family. I got this with free shipping too, so I can’t possibly ask for more.
If you’re thinking twice about getting this, I won’t stop you from checking out other gazebos on Amazon. Just be sure to read the reviews well, and by that I mean read them one by one. As for me, I give this product 5 stars for sure! – Anna M
